Kipilas Falls

Kipilas Falls
Brgy. Kipilas, Kitaotao, Bukidnon, Philippines

One of the waterfalls I fell in love with is this gigantic waterfalls of Kipilas. For twice already, the barangay has been my favorite for outreach program. People are warm and friendly. I was in awe in my first visit. I did not get near to it but I was very wet. This is truly a secret gem of Bukidnon.

How to get here:
From Davao City ride a bus bound to Cagayan then drop in Buda. From Buda you need to trek for 2 hours to Brgy. Kipilas or ride a skylab for 50pesos. Then from Brgy. Kipilas gym you need to trek for less than an hour to get to this majestic waterfalls.

Difficulty of Level:
2 hours walk to Brgy. Kipilas is easy.
1 hour trek to Kipilas Falls is average to difficult depending on which way you’ll choose. I experienced the rocky and super slippery trail but it was worth the effort.

600 pesos – Inclusive of food for two days if you want to stay overnight in the barangay; fare from Davao City to Buda and vice versa (100 bus fare one way); And 50 pesos Skylab fare from Buda to Brgy. Kipilas for one way if you will not walk

Lake Holon: Crater Lake of Mount Parker

It was last year when I first set foot in T’boli, South Cotabato. I was one of the participants of Taklad Tamig Kinse organized by Friends of Holon and Melibingoy (FHM). The two day itinerary we had includes the undisturbed trail to one of the highest peak of Mount Melibingoy (Mt. Parker) in Sitio T’bolok, T’boli, South Cotabato. It was a challenging trek and a memorable one. By then, I fell in love with the Lake and its people.

When, T’boli opened the Kule Trail to Lake Holon, there’s no longer a need to trek to Mt. Melibingoy just to see and experience the full view of its 304 hectare caldera. I am Glad, it left Mt. Melibingoy underrated and protected. That highest peak of Mount Parker is a home to insects endemic only to that place. And there you’ll see a long trail covered with pitcher plants of different sizes.

Today, Lake Holon is one of the most visited lake in Mindanao. In fact, we go there 3 to 4 times a month to bring guests who would like to see the caldera and experience mountain trekking.

To those who would like to experience the enchanted Lake Holon and mountain trekking, we are offering a barkada tour package to this Crown Jewel of the South for only P2200 (Davao Based). Just visit our Facebook page: IndedtedSoul – Trail Adventures.

Kimatahay Waterfalls

Kimatahay Falls

Facts: “Waterfalls commonly form where water rushes down steep hillsides and quickly erodes the rocks. The height and number of waterfalls along a stream or river depends upon the type of rocks that are being eroded by the water.”

This majestic waterfalls is located in Brgy. Lilingayon, Valencia, Bukidnon. It is known as Kimatahay Falls. One of its unique feature is the white rock formations in its overhang looks like a chandelier. Its plunge pool is just small and shallow.

The Barangay officials of Lilingayon were doing their best to establish the trail to this beauty. But as for now, though it is accessible, the trail is quite difficult to conquer. The soil easily loosen.

Should you wish to get here, make sure that you know the route. This is approximately 2 hours from Valencia, Bukidnon. Van can reach the area. You need to prepare gloves and trek pole  they are life.

K2D: Kitanglad – Dulang2 Traverse (2 days)

Trail Difficulty: 8/10
Elevation Profile:
Kitanglad – 1359MASL (4th highest mountain in the Philippines)
Dulang-Dulang – 2950MASL (2nd highest mountain in the Philippines)

I felt sorry for myself in the entire trek since I was not able to capture moments that I used to. Ever since I started mountain climbing, I always torture my camera. But this time, I was too lazy to stop and take a photo. Mountain temperature was so cold, in one minute rest you’ll get chilled. And I need to catch up with the group ahead and with stay on trekking schedule.

We had an unusual itinerary to these 2nd and 4th highest mountain in the Philippines. The usual three to four day trek was squeezed into two day trek. One day spending in the traverse and out of Dulang-dulang. It was a fast pace of just enjoying the scenery for at least few minutes. That’s why I strongly suggest, if you wanted to enjoy these two mountains do a four days itinerary.

I was with the trail runners of Davao and Bukidnon. They are into conditioning trek and trail run. We were just left behind but finished the entire trek strong.
