Puting Bato Mountain Resort

Mount Puting Bato, Samal Island
Mount Putting Bato is considered as the highest peak in Island Garden City of Samal. It is located in Sitio Tayapoc, Barangay Alindanao. I went up to this mountain without a better preparation. No sleep and no enough things for the hike just a bottle of water, a camera and a towel. The entire trek was fine since it is easy to get there. I was not just prepared for that bumpy ride from Peñaplata to Sitio Tayapoc. I am telling you the long bumpy ride is much more a muscle pain than climbing to the top. You will pass by grasses and cows, so better wear something that will protect your legs and hands.

At the top, you can experience a 360 degrees view of Samal Island; it is a breath taking view. The place is not well developed but is very good for overnight camping and soul searching. No one will disturb you there but the cold breeze of air and awesome encounter of nature’s gift, a complete sightseeing. Just bring enough water, food and personal needs since as I have said it is not fully developed as a so called mountain resort.

How to get here:
From Davao City take the Island Express Bus to Peñaplata, Samal, and then drop in their terminal within the Central Convenience Warehouse. Hire a Habal-Habal to Sitio Tayopoc. Tell the driver that you will go to Mount Putting Bato  so that he will not just take you to the barangay but to the drop off point where you will start your 30 minutes hike. Because there are no trail signs toward the mountain it is better to be with someone knowledgeable to that place though it is very safe.

Entrance Fee:
Day Tour: 5 pesos
OverNight: 10 pesos

Please note that no caretaker will attend to you during weekends, so better schedule your hike during weekdays.

Fare:
Davao to Peñaplata, Samal City: 40 pesos
Peñaplata, Samal City to Sitio Tayapoc (nearest drop off point): 60 pesos/person(120 pakyaw)

  1. Wow I am very Impressed. I wasn't sure what I would find when I googled you site, but you actually have put forth a lot of thought and effort here. I am intrigued by you culture, and to be honest, I know very little about it. Your country is so beautiful from the pictures I have seen. There are no mountains or even sizable hills near to where I live, but I have always longed for a great excursion in the mountainous wilderness, taking rations and survival gear by backpack and living the simple trail life for days at a time.
